Ingredients

  • Ground beef, 1 pound
  • Olive oil, 1 tablespoon
  • Tomatoes (Crushed), 1 can (28 ounces) 
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Small yellow onion (finely chopped), 1 
  • Garlic cloves (minced), 3 
  • Chicken broth or water, 3/4 cup
  • Tomato paste, 2 1/2 tablespoon
  • Fresh basil (chopped), 1/4 cup 
  • Dried oregano, 3/4 teaspoon
  • Parmesan (finely shredded), 1/4 cup 
  • Fresh parsley (Chopped), for garnish 

Instructions

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a deep and wide skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook for 3 minutes.

Step 2

Continue to cook and crumble beef until it has been thoroughly cooked, which should take about 3 minutes. Transfer the beef to a large platter lined with paper.

Step 3

Stir in 1 tbsp olive oil and sauté onion for a few minutes. Add garlic and sauté for one minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes, beef, tomato paste, water, basil, salt, pepper, and oregano.

Step 4

Once the mixture reaches a light boil, reduce the heat to low. Allow the onions to simmer for about 10 minutes. Check the thickness of the sauce and add a little more water if you prefer a thin sauce.
