Cheesecake factory orange chicken is a dish that is popular in America. It is deep-fried chicken coated in a sweet and tangy sauce. The sauce is orange-coloured, hence the name.
2 pounds Chicken Breasts (Boneless, Skinless and cut into 1 ½-inch pieces)
1 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
2 Eggs (beaten)
¼ teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Black Pepper (freshly ground)
Vegetable Oil (for frying)
For The Orange Sauce
2 tablespoons Orange Juice (freshly squeezed)
¼ cup Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
1 tablespoon Orange Zest (grated)
3 tablespoons Cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water)
½ teaspoon Ginger (minced)
1 ½ cups Water
2 ½tablespoons Soy Sauce
1 cup Brown Sugar
½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
¼ teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
Instructions
Add beaten eggs to two medium bowls. Mix flour, salt, and pepper in another bowl. Dip the chicken pieces in the eggs and then dust them with flour.
Heat the oil in a deep-fryer to 360°F and place the pieces in the deep fryer. Fry until golden brown. Remove the pieces and drain any excess oil.
Pour the water, soy sauce, orange, and lemon juice into a large saucepan. Then, add orange zest, garlic powder, ginger, and brown sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves, then bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
Then, slowly add the mixture of cornstarch and water to the sauce and stir until the sauce thickens. Once the sauce is thick, remove it from the heat.
Pour the sauce over the chicken in a serving bowl. Coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.
Serve it with hot rice and steamed vegetables and sprinkle it with some red pepper flakes. Enjoy!
