Ingredients

For The Bread Pudding

  • 3 cups french bread (cubed and partially dried)
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For The Vanilla Sauce

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/8 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Scald milk and butter together in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Beat eggs and add salt, brown sugar, and cinnamon. As soon as the milk is cool enough, add the egg mixture, making sure that it does not curdle.
  • Stir the bread cubes carefully, but do not beat. Pour into an 8" by 11" pan. Place in a preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes, check with a toothpick. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  • Mix all ingredients and cook at a low boil for three to four minutes, stirring constantly. Set aside for five minutes.
  • Place about half of the mixture on warm bread pudding and the remainder in a serving bowl for those who desire a little extra. It's best served warm, but can also be enjoyed at room temperature. Enjoy!
