Ingredients

For The Pudding:

  • 4 cups white bread (cubed, about 8 slices)
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs (slightly beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

For The Vanila Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

For The Pudding:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix bread and raisins together in a large bowl.
  • In a 1-quart saucepan, combine milk and 1/4 cup butter. Cook for 4 to 7 minutes over medium heat, until butter is melted. Then pour the milk mixture over the bread and let it stand for 10 minutes.
  • Add the remaining pudding ingredients and stir until combined. Put the mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole. Bake for about 40 to 50 minutes or until set in center.

For The Vanilla Sauce:

  • In a 1-quart saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients except vanilla.
  • Cook mixture over medium heat and stir occasionally until thick and boiling, about 5 to 8 minutes. Add vanilla.
  • Pour warm pudding into individual dessert dishes and serve with sauce. If you have leftovers, store them in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
