For The Pudding:
- 4 cups white bread (cubed, about 8 slices)
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs (slightly beaten)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For The Vanila Sauce:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
For The Pudding:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix bread and raisins together in a large bowl.
In a 1-quart saucepan, combine milk and 1/4 cup butter. Cook for 4 to 7 minutes over medium heat, until butter is melted. Then pour the milk mixture over the bread and let it stand for 10 minutes.
Add the remaining pudding ingredients and stir until combined. Put the mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole. Bake for about 40 to 50 minutes or until set in center.
For The Vanilla Sauce:
In a 1-quart saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients except vanilla.
Cook mixture over medium heat and stir occasionally until thick and boiling, about 5 to 8 minutes. Add vanilla.
Pour warm pudding into individual dessert dishes and serve with sauce. If you have leftovers, store them in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
