- 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) tomatoes (drained and diced)
- 1/2 cup onion ( coarsely chopped)
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro (minced)
- 1 jalapeno pepper (seeded and halved)
- 3 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 garlic clove (halved)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon grated lime zest
- 5 drops of hot pepper sauce
- Tortilla chips (for serving)
Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, and enchiladas. Enjoy!
- Start with fresh ingredients. If your ingredients are not fresh, the sauce will not taste good.
- Use spices that you love. The flavor of your sauce will be enhanced if you use spices that you enjoy.
- Be liberal with the chili pepper. Too much chili pepper can overpower the other flavors in the sauce, so be careful how much you add.
- A good Picante sauce should have a slightly thick consistency and should be stirred frequently to prevent it from becoming too thick or lumpy.
- Store Picante sauce in an airtight container in a cool place for the best results.
