- 1 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 large habaneros (chopped)
- 4 cup sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 16 oz. french's yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard
- 1 tablespoon turmeric
Cut up your habanero peppers, including the seeds. If you have gloves, you can use them.
Add vinegar, water, salt, and peppers to a pot and simmer over medium heat until the peppers are tender. It usually takes between six and seven minutes. You will eventually start coughing from the fumes, so be cautious.
In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, dry mustard, turmeric, and salt, then add your mustard.
Mix the mustard mixture with the pepper mixture, stirring frequently until thick.
Fill 8 sterilized hot half-pint jars with the hot mixture, leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Then place the lids and rings in a saucepan, add water, and bring it up to a simmer, not to the point of boiling, you just want them warm. Remove from heat when done. For 5 minutes, process jars in a hot water bath.
