Ingredients

  • 1 head Cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1/4 cup onion (minced)
  • 1 24 oz favourite jarred marinara sauce or homemade marinara sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (dried)
  • 1 large egg (whisked)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup brown rice (cooked)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit. Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil and season with salt.
  • Cut around the core with a pairing knife. Carefully remove six leaves from the cabbage. You don't have to worry if they tear a little bit.
  • Before removing the leaves, immerse the whole head of cabbage in boiling water for a few minutes. Boil the cabbage leaves three at a time until they are pliable and soft.
  • Combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, 1/2 cup marinara, Italian seasoning, egg, salt, dill, and nutmeg in a medium bowl. Combine the ingredients by mixing them with a fork or your hands.
  • In a 9x12 baking dish, spread half of the sauce. Use a paring knife to remove the hard veins from the cabbage.
  • In the center of each cabbage leaf, spread about half a cup of filling. Roll up like a jelly roll.
  • Place the pan seam-side down in the oven. Pour the rest of the sauce on top. Then cover it with foil.
  • Bake for about an hour or until the meat is cooked through and the cabbage is soft.
  • Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
