Preheat oven to 350℉. whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt In a medium bowl. Place aside for later use.
Cream butter and 1 cup of sugar in a larger bowl. Then add vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
Gradually add a few drops of red food colouring at a time until you achieve the desired colour, adjusting to your preference.
Add around ½ to ¾ cup of the flour mixture at once, mixing it in until everything is well combined. Repeat this process until all the ingredients are fully mixed together.
If you have parchment paper, place it on baking sheets without greasing them. Then, use a cookie scoop that measures about 1 ½ inches to scoop out the cookie dough. Roll the dough between your hands to form it into a ball shape.
Take the ball of dough and roll it in additional granulated sugar, making sure to cover all sides of the dough with the sugar.
Put the cookie dough balls on the baking sheets, making sure to leave approximately 3 inches of space between each ball.
Take the bottom of a glass or measuring cup and gently press down on each ball of dough until it becomes approximately ⅓ inch thick or slightly thinner.
Put the baking sheet with the cookies in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 to 13 minutes. Keep a close eye on them while they bake. The edges of the cookies should only just start to turn golden, and the centre may still appear slightly undercooked.
Let the cookies cool for at least 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Allow them to cool completely on the rack.
