Scottish steak pie is a traditional Scottish pie that is formed of a thick layer of pastry, encasing a layer of mashed potato and meat, and baked in a cauldron. Like many Scottish dishes, the name “Scottish steak pie” comes from the dish’s Scottish origin, although it has been spotted in England and Ireland, too.
In a frying pan, heat the oil, peel, half, and chop the onion. In the oil, brown the meat and onions.
In a saucepan, add boiling water, Worcestershire sauce, white pepper, bay leaves, and tomato puree, and sprinkle on the stock cube.
Put it on the stove, add salt and bring it to a boil. Cover and simmer for 60 minutes. Prepare the oven at 400 degrees F. In a pie dish, combine the meat and gravy.
Trim the pastry to fit over the top of the dish. Apply the egg yolk to the top of the pie and bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden.
