Ingredients
  

For Cake

  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 1 3/4 cups White Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 3 Egg yolks
  • 3 Egg whites
  • 1 cup Coldwater
  • 1/3 cup Fresh tomatoes
  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Dry cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Fresh Strawberries for topping

For Buttercream Frosting

  • 1/3 cup Butter
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • Powdered sugar 3 Cups
  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Before beginning, separate wet and dry ingredients.
  • Combine the wet ingredients one by one: shortening, sugar, vanilla, water, tomatoes, and egg yolks. In a separate metal bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy.
  • Mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt together. Combine the dry mixture with the creamy mixture.
  • Flour and grease two 8 ½ inch pans. Pour equal amounts of batter into each pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350°F.
  • For buttercream frosting, mix powdered sugar and butter in a medium bowl with a spoon or electric mixer on low speed. Add vanilla and 1 tablespoon of milk. Beat in remaining milk until frosting is smooth and spreadable.
  • Make your thunder cake look stunning by topping it with strawberries.
