Ingredients
  

  • 1 package  Active Dry Yeast
  • 4 1/4 cups  All-purpose Flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 2 tablespoons  Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Fine Salt
  • 1 cup  Butter or Margarine (melted)
  • 1/4 teaspoon  Kosher Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Coarse Salt as needed

Instructions
 

  • Begin by preparing a small bowl or cup and pour in 1/4 cup of warm water.
  • Sprinkle the yeast evenly into the warm water and set it aside for approximately 5 minutes or until it becomes foamy.
  • Transfer the yeast water to the bowl of a mixer. Add the flour, butter, sugar, fine salt, and 1 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons of warm water to the mixer bowl.
  • Attach the paddle attachment to the mixer and blend the ingredients until they form a slightly sticky dough. This typically takes about 5 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the dough from the mixer and place it on a floured surface.
  • Proceed to knead the dough by hand until it becomes exceptionally smooth and soft, which usually takes around 3 minutes. Be cautious not to over-knead.
  • Shape the dough into a 2-foot-long log and cut it into sixteen pieces, each about 1 1/2 inches in length.
  • Take each piece and knead it slightly, forming them into breadsticks that are approximately 7 inches long.
  • Arrange the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced about 2 inches apart.
  • Cover the breadsticks with a cloth and allow them to rise in a warm spot until they have nearly doubled in size, which should take around 45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Brush the breadsticks with approximately half of the melted butter or margarine. Sprinkle Kosher salt evenly over the breadsticks.
  • Place the baking sheet with the breadsticks in the preheated oven and bake them until they turn lightly golden, typically around 15 minutes.
  • Remove the breadsticks from the oven. Brush the remaining butter or margarine over the freshly baked breadsticks.
  • Sprinkle coarse salt generously over the breadsticks. Serve the breadsticks while they are warm and inviting. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Brush with extra melted butter for a treat.
