I am a huge fan of Tim Horton’s line of coffee, tea, and baked goods. I love Tim Hortons for their great coffee, great doughnuts, and great veggies. Tim Hortons also has incredibly strong flavours of their own. When I was growing up, I always loved their chili, or their chili cheese oatmeal. It was my favourite breakfast.
Pour the olive oil into a frying pan and heat over medium heat. Let it heat up. Add the beef and cook it, stirring it often. Once the beef is brown, remove it from the pan.
In the remaining oil mixed with ground beef drippings, sauté the onions, green pepper, and celery. When the onions, peppers, and celery are tender, stir in a pinch of chili powder and keep the rest aside. Mix and stir.
To the vegetable mix, add the browned ground beef. Rinse and drain the red kidney beans, and drain and roughly chop the mushrooms. Then mix in the undiluted tomato soup and diced tomatoes.
Add the remaining chili powder, oregano, garlic powder, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly. Set a lid on the pot and let it simmer. Keep stirring.
Before taking it off the heat, let it simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally until it reaches your desired thickness. It is at this point that it differs from other chilis.
Tim Hortons Chili can be served with bread, rice, or beef and broccoli.
