Pioneer Woman's Apple Crisp

Pioneer Woman Apple Crisp Recipe

Apple crisp is a sweet and spicy dessert. Making it is very simple, and while you can make this recipe without any added sugar, it is recommended that you use a homemade sugar substitute. This recipe can be made with whole-apple or fresh-squeezed juice, but I prefer the latter because I think the sweet flavour that is added by the apple creates a softer texture.

Ingredients

For The Apple Crisp:

  • Salted butter (for Greasing)
  • 8 Medium Granny Smith apples peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp The ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Kosher salt

For The Topping:

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Quick-cooking oats

  • 1/4 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 Pinch Kosher salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a 9-by-13-inch baking dish by greasing it with butter.
  • Lay out the apple slices in an even layer in the prepared baking dish. Combine the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Mix the ingredients together, then sprinkle on the apples. Pour 1/2 cup water over the apples.

For The Topping:

  • Combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt in a separate bowl. Add the butter while whisking. Top the apples evenly with the topping.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, or until the topping is slightly crispy and golden brown. If you want to serve it with ice cream, or frozen custard, serve it warm or at room temperature.
