Traditional Cuban Mojito Cocktail Recipe

Here is the real traditional Cuban Mojito Cocktail recipe that a cuban friend showed me, it is very simple to make but two small details are very important and make your mojito taste like a real cuban mojito.

There is two detail that are making the difference between random mojito and the original cuban mojito:

First of all, you have to squeeze a lime (I always use dark-green lime) and leave you squeezed lime pieces dunking into the glass when you are going to put the rest of the ingredients.

Second detail : you HAVE to use some drops of Angostura.

Ingredients to make a cuban Mojito :

  • 2 Branches of fresh mint (or Hierba buena)
  • 1 teaspoon of cane brown sugar (or cane sugar sirup)
  • 1/2 lime
  •   5 cl (1,7 oz) of Cuban Rum (preferably Bacardi Gold or Havana Club 3 anos)
  • Sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 drops of Angostura.

How to make this cuban Mojito :

Step 1

Put 10 mint leaves and the sugar in your glass, crush it with a spoon ( or use a pestle for cocktails if you have one). Crush the mint about 20 times to extract properly the mint aroma.

Step 2

Squeeze you lime over the crushed mint and sugar that is in your glass. Then put the lime into the glass.

Step 3

Pour the Rum on the whole preparation

Step 4

Add two drops of Angostura

Step 5

Add some ice cubes (In Cuba the use bif ice cubes, because it is very hot over there, but you can use crushed ice)

Step 6

To complete, pour sparkling water.

Step 7

Mix the whole preparation during 5 seconds

You can decorate your glass with some fresh mint leaves.Use preferably a large straw.
