How To Make Cracker Barrel Country Fried Steak
Cracker barrel country fried steak is a delicious and simple classic recipe. There is nothing complicated about this dish. In fact, you could make this at home the night before and the next day. And of course, once you’ve made it can be stored in the fridge for a very long time.
Ingredients
- Bottom or top round steak (cut into four pieces, tenderized), 2 pounds
- All-purpose flour, 1/2 cup
- Salt (to taste)
- Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- 1 large egg
- Water, 2 tablespoons
- Bisquick or other buttermilk baking mix, 3/4 cup
- Vegetable oil, 1/3 cup
Instructions
Step 1
Heat the oven to 150°F. Sift flour, salt, and pepper together in a shallow pan or plate. Combine egg and water in another shallow pan. Pour baking mix into a third shallow pan.
Step 2
Dip steaks in egg mixture, then in flour mixture, then in baking mix.
Step 3
Add vegetable oil to a large frying pan and heat it until a drop of water sizzles.
Step 4
Cook coated steak pieces 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and thoroughly cooked. You can add additional vegetable oil between the steaks if necessary.
Step 5
After removing the steak from the oven, pour off the vegetable oil, but keep 2 tablespoons in the pan for the gravy. Serve warm immediately.
