8 oz cream cheese
1 frozen puff pastry box
5 tablespoon confectioner sugar
Melted butter (for brushing)
Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
1 egg wash (a mixture of beaten egg and water for brushing)
Step By Step Instructions for Baking Porto’s Cheese Roll
Turn ON your oven to preheat it for almost 30 minutes at about 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Take a large bowl and pour 9 oz cream cheese, 1 egg yolk, and 5 tablespoon sugar. Mix the ingredients thoroughly with a balloon whisker to make a smooth creamy batter.
Lay the puff pastry having room temperature on your kitchen counter. Cut the slice of puff pastry in a triangular shape.
For filling these puff pastry triangles, add 1 tablespoon of creamy batter filling on one end of the puff pastry. After placing the filling, you should roll the puff pastry in a way to form crescent shape rolls.
Place all the filled rolls in a baking tray. To get the mouthwatering and luscious look of rolls, we suggest you brush all the rolls with egg wash. For making egg wash, you need to whisk one egg and one tablespoon of water.
After brushing, your rolls are ready to be baked in your preheated oven. Bake them in the oven for almost 10-15 minutes until they turn golden brown.

Tips to be Considered While Making Porto’s Cheese Rolls
- Thaw your puff pastry to make it soft at room temperature. It will be easy to roll soft puff pastry.
- Use only cream cheese according to the recipe card. In case of using excess cream cheese, your roll will not be locked securely from corners.
- Sprinkle some flour on the rolling counter to avoid sticking rolls with the rolling pin.
- You need to check the puff pastry rolls after 10 minutes in the oven. If your rolls will be puffing beautifully displaying layers, you only need 5-7 minutes more to turn them into golden brown.
