  • 16-20 jalapenos
  • 1 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon ground dry mustard
  • 16 oz yellow mustard
  • 10 half-pint jars with lids and bands

Step By Step Instructions To Make Jalapeno Mustard

Step 1

Cut jalapenos in half lengthwise and remove seeds. Chop peppers finely to yield 4 cups.

Step 2

In a large saucepan, combine jalapenos, vinegar, water, and salt. Then simmer for about 8 minutes on medium heat. 

Step 3

Mix in 1-3 tablespoons of the reserved jalapenos seed, according to your preference.

Step 4

In a medium bowl, combine sugar, flour, turmeric, and dry mustard. Then stir in the yellow mustard.

Step 5

Combine the mustard mixture with the jalapeno mixture. Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until thick.

Step 6

Leave 1/2 inch of headspace in 10 hot, sterilized half-pint jars. Cover with two-piece lids. In a hot water bath, process for 10-15 minutes.

Step 7

Place jars in a draft-free place and let them set for 24 hours. Unopened jars of mustard will last for one year. Enjoy with your favorite dishes.
