How To Make Pastel De Carne
Pastel de Carne is a dish that is popular in many Latin American countries, and it’s typically served as a main course. The meat can be cooked with vegetables or without them, but here I’ve included the more traditional version for some extra flavor. This recipe includes two options for cooking: one on the stovetop and one in the oven. If you’re not sure which to use, then I recommend using your oven because it will guarantee that your pastel de Carne comes out tender every time!
- Ground beef, 1-1/2 pound
- Ground pork, 3/4 pound
- Worcestershire sauce, 2 tbsp
- Butter, 2 tbsp
- Onion (chopped), 1/2 cup
- Garlic cloves (minced), 2
- Celery (chopped), 1/2 cup
- 2 Eggs
- Bread crumbs, 1 cup
- Mölli Acapulco Cooking Paste, 4 tbsp
- Salt, 1/2 tsp
- Pepper, 1/2 tsp
- Bacon slices, 6
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a small skillet, melt the butter. Add the celery, onion, garlic, and salt and cook for 5 minutes, until soft. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
Add the onion, garlic, celery, and all the other ingredients except the bacon to a large mixing bowl. Gently mix everything together, being careful not to overdo it.
On a baking sheet, shape the meat mixture into an oval loaf. Place bacon slices across the loaf. Bake for one and a half hours, basting occasionally with the juices in the pan during this time.
Remove from the oven and let stand for ten minutes before serving. Slicing into thick slices and serving with mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
