Ingredients

  • Half and half, 1 cup
  • 3 large eggs
  • Honey (warmed in the microwave for 20 seconds), 2 tablespoons
  • Kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon
  • Day-old or stale country loaf, brioche, or challah bread, 8 slices
  • Butter, 4 tablespoons
  • Frosted Flakes Crushed (for coating)

Step By Step Instructions To Make Alton Brown French Toast

Step 1

Combine half-and-half, eggs, honey, and salt in a medium mixing bowl. 

Step 2

Refrigerate the mixture overnight if you do it the night before. 

Step 3

Put the custard mixture into a pie pan and set it aside when ready to cook.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Put bread in custard mixture, allow it to soak for 30 seconds on each side, and then remove to a wire rack set inside a half sheet pan, and allow it to sit for 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 5

In the meantime, prepare a second half sheet pan with a wire rack. Coat the soaked and rested bread with Frosted Flakes before cooking.

Step 6

Melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium-low heat in a 10-inch saute pan. Cook 2 slices of bread at a time in the pan until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes per side.

Step 7

Remove from pan and place on half sheet pan with rack lined in oven for 5 minutes. Repeat with remaining slices. To serve, drizzle with maple syrup, top with whipped cream or add fruit.
