Ingredients

  • Frozen puff pastry, 1 package (17 1/2 oz)
  • White sugar, 1 cup 
  • Dry breadcrumbs, 3⁄4 cup
  • Ground cinnamon, 3 tablespoons
  • Ground nutmeg, 1 pinch
  • Egg (beaten), 1
  • Granny smith apples (peeled and halved), 4 
  • Confectioners’ sugar, 1 cup
  • Vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon
  • Milk, 3 tablespoons

For The Pecan Streusel

  • Toasted pecans (chopped), 2⁄3 cup
  • Brown sugar (packed), 2⁄3 cup 
  • All-purpose flour, 2⁄3 cup
  • Butter (melted), 5 tablespoons

Instructions

For The Pecan Streusel

Step 1

Mix chopped toasted pecans, packed brown sugar, all-purpose flour and melted butter in a small bowl.

Step 2

Combine with a fork until the mixture resembles moist crumbs. Prepare according to the recipe. Add more or less as needed.

For The Apple Dumpling

Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 425°F. Grease a baking sheet lightly. Prepare the pastry by rolling it out to 12×12 inches. Cut the pastry into 8 – 6 inch squares.

Step 2

Add cinnamon, sugar, bread crumbs, and nutmeg to a small bowl. Beat an egg and brush it on a pastry square.

Step 3

Place 1 tablespoon of the bread crumb mixture in the centre. Add one apple half, core side up, on top of the bread crumb mixture. Add another tablespoon of the mixture on top.

Step 4

Pinch the sides of the pastry together to seal the seams completely. Continue with the remaining apples. Beat an egg and brush on each dumpling. Add pecan streusel on top.

Step 5

Bake 15 minutes at 350°F, then reduce the heat to 350°F and bake 25 minutes longer, until lightly browned. 

Step 6

To make the, Mix confectioners’ sugar and vanilla with milk until a drizzling consistency is reached.

Step 7

Pour this over cooled dumplings. Allow to cool completely at room temperature. Serve immediately.
