What is Fried Ice Cream?

Mexican style fried ice cream consists of a scoop of vanilla ice cream dipped in flour then fried in oil quickly. The deep-fried crust is crisp, warm and tasteful as a result of the deep-frying. The first time you try this dessert, you will be smitten with it. Cereal and cinnamon are crushed together to make the breaded shell. It has such a unique texture because of the cornflakes, and it has a little spice from the cinnamon.

Is fried ice cream really Mexican?

There are a lot of Mexican restaurants that serve fried ice cream. In the 80s, Chi-Chi’s, a popular restaurant chain, introduced the dessert to the public as its signature dessert. People frequently refer to it as Mexican Fried Ice Cream. Originally, it was made with cinnamon and tortillas. The dessert was subsequently made in other Mexican restaurants with cornflakes, cookie crumbs, and nuts.

Is it possible to make it in advance?

It’s possible! Before serving, I try to keep the ice cream balls frozen while I spread the toasted cereal over them. It is possible to prepare them in advance and store them in the freezer. Don’t add any toppings like chocolate sauce or whipped cream until you’re serving.

Can I use another flavor of ice cream?

Definitely! You can use any flavour of ice cream you like when making homemade fried ice cream. Be sure that the cinnamon flavour of the cornflake coating combines well with the ice cream flavour.

Tips for Mexican Fried Ice Cream

  • You could serve up an ice cream sundae by simply scattering the warm cornflake crumbs over top.
  • You could also use sweetened shredded coconut or chopped pecans in place of some of the corn flakes.
  • You don’t need to shape your ice cream with your hands – only if you want your fried ice cream to look perfect!
