How To Make Unbelievably Moist Turkey Meatloaf

There are many types of meatloaf recipes out there, but aside from the fact that there are hundreds of variations you can make, the recipes vary in the exact way they are cooked. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, meatloaf is cooked at a temperature of between 145 and 155 degrees. 

However, many people make their meatloaf at a much higher temperature than that, boiling it for over an hour. The last method of cooking meatloaf is to prepare it in a microwave oven since microwave ovens cook meatloaf at much lower temperatures. Ingredients

  • Ground turkey mince (92% lean), 1 ¼ pound 
  • Mushrooms (finely chopped), 8 ounces 
  • Bread crumbs, 1 cup
  • Medium onion, (finely chopped), 1 
  • Garlic cloves minced, 2 
  • Oil, 1 tablespoon 
  • Sea salt, 3/4 teaspoon 
  • Ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon 
  • Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon 
  • Ketchup, 7 tablespoons 
  • Milk, 1/3 cup
  • Eggs (lightly beaten), 2 

Instructions

Step 1

Set the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Using aluminum foil, lightly oil a rimmed baking sheet.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the oil over low heat. Add the onion and cook until soft, stirring occasionally. Cook the garlic for about 1 minute or until fragrant. 

Step 3

Add the mushrooms, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. For about 10 minutes, you need to cook the mushrooms until they give off their liquid.

Step 4

Stir the Worcestershire sauce and three tablespoons of ketchup into the onions and mushrooms in a large bowl. Let cool for 5 minutes.

Step 5

In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Combine the breadcrumbs mixture and eggs with the mushrooms and onions. Add ground turkey, a quarter-teaspoon of salt, and a quarter-teaspoon of pepper and mix with a fork or your hands. 

Step 6

Prepare a baking sheet by cutting a 9-inch by 5-inch oval out of the meatloaf. Add the remaining four tablespoons of ketchup to the top.

Step 7

Bake The meatloaf. Meatloaf is done when an instant-read thermometer placed in the thickest part of the meatloaf registers 170 degrees F, about 50 minutes. Allow the meat to stand for 5 minutes before slicing.
