Ingredients Directions

For making Benihana garlic butter, you just need some simple ingredients which you can easily find in your grocery store. You don’t even have to go to a store. These simple ingredients will already be present in your kitchen.

Butter: You need to use unsalted butter. The salted one can affect the taste of the final garlic butter. Plus you can use any butter brand. But if you are in search of the original Benihana garlic butter taste, try using unsalted butter from Wholesome farms (Sysco). It will hopefully give you a near-to-original taste. You can also use homemade butter or whipped butter.

Garlic: Make sure that you are using fresh garlic for a better aroma and taste. You can check for the freshness of the garlic by checking two things. First, check that the garlic cloves you selected have an undamaged peel. Second, it is hard enough to not get pressed by hand.

Soy Sauce: As aforementioned, you are suggested to use unsalted butter, to add a hint of salty as well as umami flavor, you will need soy sauce. There is no restriction for using some specific brand’s soy sauce. You can use one from your favorite brand.

Lemon Juice: To add tangy flavor and freshness to the garlic butter, you need lemons. Try to use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best taste. Bottled juice is not a good option because it has preservatives and it also does not have freshness as compared to freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Black Pepper: This is an optional ingredient for improving the taste. Try to use freshly ground black pepper. If you do not like the aroma or taste of black pepper, you can skip this ingredient for sure.

Tips from Chef

  • To facilitate easy cleaning afterward, instead of using a plastic bowl or container, try using a stainless steel or ceramic bowl.
  • You can use both minced and roasted garlic.
  • You can also make whipped butter at home. For whipping the butter, add 2-3 tbsp of milk in it and blend it thoroughly. Here you go!
  • For better mixing, try to add butter gradually in small amounts instead of adding it all at once.
  • For better squeezing, roll the lemon on a hard and leveled surface. It makes the lemon pulpy and easy to squeeze. It also eases extracting juice from the lemon.
  • Lemon is merely for adding a bit of tartness to enhance the flavor. Do not use a lot of lemon juice as it will influence the taste of garlic butter.
  • You can add olive oil, green onion, or any other desired seasoning to the original Benihana garlic butter according to your palate.

Which Recipes to Complement with Benihana Garlic Butter?

You can not only add the Benihana garlic butter to your recipes while cooking but also serve it separately as a side dish. Following are some dishes that can be served with Benihana garlic butter:

  • Benihana fried rice
  • Benihana chicken
  • Beef ribs
  • Shrimp penne pasta
  • London broil
  • Chuck roast

How to Store?

The good thing about this butter is that you can make it in large quantities to store for later use.  Just place your butter in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. The airtight container prevents the aroma of garlic from spreading in the fridge. It also saves the taste of the butter.

Pro Tip 1: Store the butter by wrapping it in a plastic sheet or aluminum foil rolled in a diameter of about 2 inches. Just cut the amount you need from this rolled-up hardened butter and soften it for use.

Pro Tip 2: If your butter has developed a grainy appearance from refrigerating, just add 2 tablespoons of fresh whipped butter in it and blend until it gains a normal texture.
