Originating in 1930, Bisquick is a very instant cooking premixed baking mix. Its notion barged into the mind of Carl Smith, the sales executive of General Mills. He used to travel to San Francisco and loved the biscuits that the train baker used to make. So he modified the recipe of train biscuits to something that is now sold as Bisquick. It is a premix of all the raw ingredients that you can use to make a myriad of recipes from simple snacks to breakfast bakes and even the casserole dinner. Method

  1. Take a medium-sized pot or bowl,
  2. Add the 2 cups Bisquick baking premix and ⅔ cups milk in the bowl while stirring.
  3. Keep stirring so that a soft dough is formed.
  4. Stop mixing when the dough is formed.
  5. Taking the spoonfuls of the mixture, add it to the boiling stew.
  6. Reduce the flame under the stew to low.
  7. Do not over-stir the dumplings in the stew otherwise, they will break.
  8. Keeping the lid of the stew pot open, cook the dumplings for about 10 minutes.
  9. Now cover the simmering stew pot with a lid and again cook for 10 minutes.

If you are gluten-free, you have good news Bisquick now has a gluten-free premix also. So you can use that one just in case you need it. For the gluten-free version, since you know it will be a bit brittle, so to keep it from falling apart, you need to add some additional ingredients to make it in shape. So let’s have a quick look at how to make gluten-free dumplings of Bisquick.

Ingredients

  • Bisquick baking mix = 2.25 cups
  • Milk = ⅔ cups (approximately 5.4 oz)
  • Eggs = 3
  • Vegetable shortening = ⅓  cups
  • Herbs (optional) = to add color and freshness to the final dish

Method

  1. Take a medium-sized pot or bowl,
  2. Add the 2.25 cups Bisquick baking premix in it.
  3. Then using a blender or forks cut the vegetable shortening into the premix.
  4. In a separate bowl, add 3 eggs and ⅔ cups milk and whisk them well together.
